At the heart of the Gandhi Jayanti Cultural Weekend is the unique music and dance concert SATYA, taking place on 2 October at 7:00 PM — an evening celebrating the beauty of Indian classical music, dance, and thought.
For the first time in Spain, we are honoured to present Amol Gandharva, an acclaimed Hindustani classical vocalist and recipient of the prestigious Gandharva Award. Carrying forward a rich musical heritage through his Guru, the legendary Pandit Ajay Chakraborty, his artistry brings together depth, emotion, and tradition in a truly unique concert experience.
He will be joined by Amit Mishra on tabla, representing the renowned Benaras tradition, and Anik Mishra on the rare and soulful sarangi. Also joining the evening will be Nupura's in-house Tabla Maestro, Rohit Mistry, who will present exceptional compositions from the rich legacy of his Guru, the eminent Pandit Yogesh Samsi, adding another remarkable dimension to the concert. Together, these artists create an extraordinary musical journey where melody, rhythm, and emotion come together in perfect harmony.
Adding a visual dimension to the evening, the Nupura Kathak Ensemble, under the direction of Shreyashee Nag, will present specially curated choreographies inspired by the music and spirit of the occasion.
As a special tribute to Gandhi Jayanti, the evening will feature the premiere of "Vaishnava Jana To," Mahatma Gandhi's beloved bhajan, presented through a unique collaboration of live music and Kathak dance.
The evening will also be enriched by the presence of Agustín Paniker, one of Spain's most respected writers, editors, and scholars of Indian culture and philosophy. We are deeply honoured to welcome him for an interactive conversation exploring the enduring relevance of Mahatma Gandhi's ideas in today's world. His thoughtful insights and engaging dialogue promise to be a true highlight of the evening, offering the audience a rare opportunity to reflect on Gandhi's legacy through the perspective of one of Spain's foremost voices on India.

En el corazón del Fin de Semana Cultural de Gandhi Jayanti se encuentra el concierto de música y danza SATYA, que tendrá lugar el 2 de octubre a las 19:00 h, una velada que celebra la belleza de la música clásica india, la danza y el pensamiento.
Por primera vez en España, tenemos el honor de presentar a Amol Gandharva, aclamado vocalista de música clásica hindustani y galardonado con el prestigioso Premio Gandharva. Heredero de una extraordinaria tradición musical a través de su maestro, el legendario Pandit Ajay Chakraborty, su arte combina profundidad, emoción y tradición para ofrecer una experiencia musical verdaderamente única.
Le acompañarán Amit Mishra a la tabla, representante de la prestigiosa tradición de Benarés, y Anik Mishra al sarangi, un instrumento de excepcional belleza y gran expresividad. También participará el Maestro de Tabla residente de Nupura, Rohit Mistry, quien interpretará extraordinarias composiciones pertenecientes al rico legado de su maestro, el eminente Pandit Yogesh Samsi, aportando una dimensión artística aún más especial al concierto. Juntos, estos artistas crearán un viaje musical extraordinario en el que melodía, ritmo y emoción se funden en perfecta armonía.
Aportando una dimensión visual a la velada, el Nupura Kathak Ensemble, bajo la dirección de Shreyashee Nag, presentará coreografías especialmente creadas e inspiradas en la música y el espíritu de la ocasión.
Como homenaje especial al Gandhi Jayanti, la velada acogerá el estreno de «Vaishnava Jana To», el célebre bhajan favorito de Mahatma Gandhi, presentado a través de una propuesta única que fusiona música en directo y danza Kathak.
La velada contará asimismo con la presencia de Agustín Paniker, uno de los escritores, editores y mayores especialistas españoles en cultura y filosofía de la India. Nos sentimos profundamente honrados de darle la bienvenida para mantener un diálogo interactivo sobre la vigencia del pensamiento de Mahatma Gandhi en el mundo actual. He has accompanied some of the finest artists of Indian classical music like: Vidushi Girija Devi ji, Pt.Birju Maharaj ji, Smt Sitara Devi ji, vidushi Sonal Mansingh ji, Pt. Ajay Pohankar ji, Pt. Channu lal Mishra ji, Smt Sunaina Hajarilal ji to name a few.
Reconocido exponente de la Gharana de Benarés de la música clásica de la India, Amit Mishra proviene de una distinguida familia de músicos. Inició su formación bajo la guía de su padre, Pt. Kishor Kumar Mishra, y posteriormente continuó sus estudios con el legendario maestro de tabla Padma Bhushan Pt. Samta Prasad Mishra. Más tarde recibió una formación avanzada de su gurú, el internacionalmente reconocido Pt. Sharda Sahai, descendiente directo de Pt. Ram Sahai, fundador de la Gharana de Benarés.

Although Shreyashee Nag is widely recognised for her innovative choreographic work exploring the dialogue between Kathak and Flamenco, in concert Satya she returns to the very heart of the Kathak tradition. This production presents original repertoire deeply rooted in the classical treasures of Kathak, brought to life through the powerful interaction between dance and live Hindustani music.
As a special tribute to Gandhi Jayanti, this concert will premier a unique choreography on Vaishnav Jan To, Mahatma Gandhi's beloved devotional hymn. This powerful finale brings together a large intergenerational ensemble of Kathak dancers, celebrating unity, compassion, humility, and the shared values of humanity through the timeless language of Indian classical dance.

El Nupura Kathak Ensemble, bajo la dirección artística de Shreyashee Nag (Premio Crítica 2024 – Mejor Bailarina), es la compañía residente del Nupura Centre of Performing Arts. Integrado por bailarines de Kathak de diversas generaciones y trayectorias, el ensemble tiene como misión difundir la riqueza de la danza clásica de la India a través de espectáculos que combinan excelencia artística, ritmo, expresión y diálogo intercultural.
Aunque Shreyashee Nag es ampliamente reconocida por sus innovadoras creaciones coreográficas que exploran el diálogo entre el Kathak y el Flamenco, en el concierto Satya regresa a la esencia más pura de la tradición del Kathak. Esta producción presenta un repertorio original profundamente arraigado en los tesoros de esta danza clásica, interpretado con el extraordinario acompañamiento de música hindustani en directo.
Como homenaje especial al Gandhi Jayanti, este concierto estrenará una coreografía única sobre Vaishnav Jan To, el célebre himno devocional más querido por Mahatma Gandhi. Este emotivo final reunirá a un gran elenco intergeneracional de bailarines de Kathak para celebrar la unidad, la compasión, la humildad y los valores universales de la humanidad a través del lenguaje atemporal de la danza clásica de la India.
